Education is an important aspect of everyone’s life. Whether through the social aspect of school, or learning the basis of what is necessary to succeed in the real world; education has many benefits that are vital for children to learn. However, while most children attend elementary and high school, many do not go on to continue their education.

Unfortunately, this has been an ongoing problem for a number of years. Children do not see the benefit of pursuing further education, and instead, kick back and enjoy their new found freedom. However, these same children end up having to take jobs that are of no interest to them, and are vastly underpaid in the long run. Pursuing post graduate education is extremely important for a number of reasons, below is a list of a couple of notable benefits.

More Marketable to Employers

One of the most important benefits of continuing your education is due to the fact that employers are in high demand of individuals who exhibit specialized training and skills they received through college. As such, a potential employee who has a degree in a specific field is much more appealing to an employer over an individual who only has a high school diploma.

Better Pay

This benefit is among one of the most appealing to those looking to continue their education. A number of studies have been done that indicate those who obtain a four year degree from a university get paid roughly one million dollars more over the course of their life-time over someone with just a high school diploma.

Certainly one of the most important decisions to make in continuing education is the school you will be attending. Naturally there are pros and cons to both public and private schools and the decision isn’t always easy. A number of factors will weigh heavily into your decision such as money, location, and course offerings. Before you commit to a school, be sure to consider the following factors in determining your education destination.

Private University- There is no doubt a certain amount of prestige that comes with attending a private university. There is also a much heavier tuition bill as well. If you will be attending college on an academic or athletic scholarship, a private university is probably the right choice for you. Private schools often have top notch professors and facilities and if you’re getting a free ride, you may as well go for the best.

Public University- Studies have shown that the important thing is getting your degree. In select circles, perhaps the private college diploma gets you the nod over someone who attended state school, but most of the time earnings are not much different over a lifetime for public school graduates over private. Once you have your degree and enter the work force, it will be your demonstration of skill and ability to work with others that will get you promoted and not the name on your alumni sweatshirt.

Even though you have the ability to switch schools later on, you are better off making the right decision from the start. Weigh your options but remember that a private school will cost you thousands more and student loans bills come fast.

Books As Companions

The world might have gone through a 360 degree turn as far as our way of life when compared to say some 50 to 60 years ago. During those days, radio perhaps was the only companion for man and gradually TV started occupying his drawing and bed room, slowly driving away radio. But in spite of the communication revolution which was happening at the point of time, books continued to be the closest companion for men. However, this has drastically changed today with the invasion of computer followed closely by the internet.

While technology has to change and old has to give way to the new, there are certain things which are timeless and which cannot be replaced. One such thing is books. Books continue to be good companions for human beings because of some qualities which are simply irreplaceable and timeless. There is a common belief amongst the younger generation that books are no longer a necessity and are slowly on the verge of extinction. For people with such thoughts we only have a wry smile to offer.

For those who are academically inclined books will continue to be an importance source of information and entertainment. There is no substitute for reading a crime thriller. You can watch the same book on the big screen, or on TV, or even on the computer, but the fact remains that the excitement that we get reading it from a novel is simply irreplaceable. However, there are some steps we as elders can do to reestablish to pride of place for books by making young children get into the habit of reading books. If this habit can be inculcated, certainly they will start liking books.

Six Months’ Grace

There is a grace period that students receive after they graduate from college that begins the moment they graduate. This time is called deferment. Deferment allows a graduate to prepare to repay their student loans once the time period is over, which is six months. This may seem like a lot of time, but really that six months will fly by, and most graduates are overwhelmed with the first bill they receive. So, how does a graduate prepare for the first bill and repayment of student loans? Through well thought-out preparation. This is the best way to help ensure that the anxiety of the first bill will not completely ruin a graduate’s day.

Importance Of Library In Education

The practice of going to a library and scouting for books is an age old practice. However, of late this wonderful practice is on the wane and the biggest culprit for this to happen is without doubt the internet. If one the biggest bane of the internet has to be identified, it is the killing of the reading habit. It is indeed unfortunate the young children are slowing losing the habit of going to a library and picking up some good books and reading it. Though good books are available online, downloading it or reading it online is indeed no match when it comes to reading a book which is new, where the pages are crisp and sweet smelling.

Further too much of reading online is very unhealthy for the eyes and the best way to engage in reading is going to a library where the environment is very calm and peaceful and it helps concentration. Further, the choice of books in a library is vast and you can have a look at the first few pages of a book if you are not very sure about the contents. Library also helps you to socialize and make new friends which is not possible in an online environment.

Reading is indeed a great habit and it is best practiced in a library even today in the era of the internet. It has been found through research that children and teenager who have a habit of reading regularly tend to do well in their overall IQ and eventually they become better human beings and are more successful in their jobs and career. Further reading is the only way to increase a persons’ vocabulary and help him or her develop skill sets in a language.

Requirements to Become a Teacher

To become an elementary school teacher there are several educational requirements that must be met. To teach in a public school setting an individual must become licensed to be a teacher. This usually is accomplished by completing a bachelor’s degree in education as well as completing a student teaching assignment. Although, in a private setting licensure is not always required, but most private teachers also hold a bachelor’s degree in education.

There may be other criteria that must be met for the state one is seeking licensure as licensure requirements for teachers vary from state to state. However, besides having a bachelor’s degree in education and have completed a student teaching assignment, it is also expected that an individual must also have a passing grade on a teaching exam as well as have a teaching certificate. It is also generally understood that to keep a teaching license individuals must keep up with continuing educational requirements specified either by the state where licensure is being sought or the school in which the teacher is teaching.

If one wishes to teach at a different level than what they are licensed to teach it may be necessary to obtain additional education. Many higher level teaching certifications required a master’s degree in education or at the least a bachelor’s degree in education or the specific field that they will be teaching. Prospective teachers may also be required to take additional training or education in teaching techniques.

Once an individual has completed the educational requirements for teaching and obtained the necessary certification required in their state, it is now time to head out into the real world and look for a job. If one was successful in their student teaching assignment and has obtained positive referrals from the teaching staff that they worked with during this assignment it will make the job hunt much easier. It may be necessary, however, to take substitute teaching assignments in the meantime while searching for a permanent position. This is recommended to keep working with the educational system and provides the experience necessary to land the perfect teaching position!
